Mary Haney Obituary

Mary Frances Logan Haney

May 23, 1933 - Dec 9, 2025

Mary Frances Logan Haney, born May 23, 1933, in Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and kindness.

Mary grew up in East Texas before attending Texas Christian University, where her bright spirit and warm heart quickly made her beloved among friends. During her time at TCU, she met the love of her life, Joe Tom Haney, who was visiting from SMU. The two married in the summer of 1953, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by devotion, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.

Mary dedicated her career to education, serving as a beloved librarian at A&M Consolidated High School. Her passion for books and learning inspired countless students, and her gentle guidance helped many discover a lifelong love of reading. Alongside her work in the library, Mary also served as the golf coach, leading her teams to numerous tournament victories. Whether encouraging students academically or athletically, she poured her heart into creating opportunities for young people to grow, learn, and flourish.

Outside of her work, Mary found great joy on the golf course. She loved the game's challenge, its quiet beauty, and the friendships it nurtured. A remarkably skilled player, Mary won the Club Championship at Briarcrest Country Club 15 times-earning her first title in 1976 and her last in 2009. Whether competing, playing a casual round, or simply enjoying time outdoors, golf brought her happiness and a sense of calm that stayed with her throughout her life.

While Joe was Director of the Fighting Texas Aggie Band, Mary played an important and trusted role in all that position required. She embraced the spirit and tradition of the Corps and the University, supporting Joe through years of service and leadership. A devoted Texas Aggie fan, Mary loved cheering on her Aggies and took great pride in being part of the broader Aggie family.

Mary will be remembered for her kindness, her love of knowledge, and the steadfast affection she held for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the many hearts she shaped and in the stories she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joe Tom Haney; her parents, Samuel Douglas Logan Sr. and Mary Logan; her brother, Samuel Douglas Logan Jr; and her niece, Lisa Logan. She is survived by her nephew, Stephen Logan, and his wife Donna Imy Logan; her niece, Laurie Logan Hudson and her husband, Ken Hudson; her great-nephew, Sean Logan; her great-nieces, Melissa Logan O'Neill, Jessica Hemann Sala, Elizabeth Hemann McGee and Rain Hemann Bond; her four great-grandnephews and one great-grandniece.

A memorial service honoring Mary's life will be held on December 16, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, located at 1100 Carter Creek Parkway, Bryan, Texas 77802.

I am so saddened by Mary's loss. I did not know about her death or service or I would have attended. I know she is at peace now in heaven. Loved her and Joe Tom!

We all will miss Mary. I will miss her smile . She was kind to all and I feel fortunate to have seen her at Crestview the past few years. My late husband and I loved both her and her husband. Beautiful people and we were fortunate to be friends.

I remember Mary when I taught and was later a counselor at Consolidated. She was always so great with my students when they had a research project that involved the library. My thoughts are with her family at this time.

Mary was an outstanding golfer and I certainly was not. She was always very patient and gracious to me. They were a great couple as well. They are both missed.

I taught at A&M Consolidated when Mary was librarian. She ate lunch with the math department every day, so we became good friends. She was so loved and admired.

My father and Joe Tom were first cousins and close friends. Over the years, my husband and I visited Mary and Joe when we were in College Station. They always had us in their home and considered us family. We miss both of them very much.
