Mary Hanks Obituary

GRATIS — Mary E. Hanks, 79, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020 at her residence. She was born April 8, 1941 in Eaton to the late Lafayette and Eva Summers. She was a member of the Rebekah Eastern Star Lodge, Camden. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning. She retired as a school bus driver from Preble Shawnee Schools.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Pappy" Hanks, who passed away in 2008; sister Shelby Jean Summers; and brother John Henry Summers. She is survived by her son Robert Hanks of Columbus; daughters Robin (Ronald) Richardson of Gratis and Debbie (Richard) Schock of Miamisburg; grandchildren Robert Hanks III, Rebecca L. (Patrick) Caplinger and Michael T. Schock; brothers MacGarvey Summers and Herbert (Evelyn) Summers; several nieces and nephews; and her special canine companion Bella.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Gratis. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Gratis Firefighters Association, PO Box 541, Gratis, 45330 or the Gratis Township Rescue Association, PO Box 671, Gratis, 45330.
