Mary Jane Hari

Mary Jane Hari, age 84, of Alliance, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at her home. She was born in Salem, Ohio on August 29, 1923 to George R. and Nellie Leona (Moore) Walter and was a resident of Salem until her marriage to Carl in 1942. Mary was employed from 1942 until 1955 at Alliance Manufacturing Co., leaving private employment to become a full-time wife and mother after her last daughter was born. Mary was a member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Salem High School Alumni Association, AARP, and was a former member of the Elks Auxiliary. During her life, Mary enjoyed a variety of activities including roller skating when it was popular, as well as dancing and listening to those great bands and their vocalists during the Big Band Era. She enjoyed camping, especially the nightly campfires, as well as boating and fishing during the many family vacations spent in Canada. Mary had a special talent for the arts and crafts, spending and enjoying the many hours needed to complete her creations. Mary was a devoted wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother, always placing their needs before her own. The love and devotion she gave her family will never be forgotten and all will miss her. Her husband, Carl John Hari of Alliance and a brother Gail Walter of Salem, survive her. Mary's three surviving children are a son, Craig A. and Elizabeth (Bientz) Hari of Medina; two daughters, Karla Sue and Bruce Bernard of Medina and Christine Joan and John Cardinal of Sebring. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Megan and Erin Hari, Corey and Christy Bernard, and Joseph Cardinal as well as several nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Lori Shank. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter (Bud) Walter; a sister, Carmen Mills; two nieces and a nephew. Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, Ohio with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park The family wishes to thank Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Alliance for the care they have provided.
