SHELBY: Mary Anne Byers Harrill, a lifelong Cleveland County native passed away at age 90, Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Mary Anne was a spirited, independent lady known for her thoughtful and meticulous ways. She held a degree from UNC Greensboro and spent her working career at Porter Brothers in Shelby, NC.
Mary Anne was a devoted member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church and was a lifelong learner, having a deep love of scripture, reading and travel. Mary Anne enjoyed a busy social life with her church family, close friends, extended family and loved ones, including dinner club and events around town. Her sharp mind and generous nature made her a cherished friend and family member. She also loved the outdoors, whether she was off to the beach with friends and cousins, tending her flower garden, or watching birds in her backyard.
Mary Anne was the daughter of Chivous and Pauline Thompson Byers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Austell Harrill; and sisters, Almeda Byers and Bonnie Byers. Mary Anne is survived by family members who will miss her dearly: brother-in-law Tom Harrill (Libby); nephew, Tommy Harrill (Connie); niece, Paula Bonino (Corey); nephew, Josh Harrill (Alison); nephew, David Baysinger; niece Karen Baysinger; nephew, Bruce Baysinger (Donna); along with numerous cousins, great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, a Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Shuford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Memorials can be made to Sulphur Springs Methodist Church.
