Cherryville - Mr. John Henry "Johnny" Harrill, 74 passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 30 2025 at his home.
Johnny was born in Shelby NC on August 11, 1951 to the late Henry Housen Harrill and Walda Harris Harrill Allen. He was very close to his grandparents, Johnny and Ruth Harrill and Esther Harris. John graduated from Crest High School in 1968 and worked as a licensed Utility Contractor and Licensed Plumber for himself most of his life. In his latter years he was employed and retired from the City of Gastonia. He then went back to work with his oldest son Cole in the Plumbing business until he stepped back a few years later to help with his grandchildren.
Johnny was a simple man who enjoyed riding horses, old rock, country and bluegrass music, motorcycle riding and in his younger years running and biking. He also loved going to Jack Bingham's bomb shelter on Wednesdays for picking and socializing and did so for many many years. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends and kept in touch with many of them on a daily basis. He was always an old soul who rarely met a stranger and if he did they wouldn't be a stranger for long. Johnny was very proud of both of his sons Cole and Jess and absolutely adored his three grandchildren who lovingly called him "Dodo." His family was the light of his life.
Survivors include his two sons, Henry Cole Harrill and wife Taylor of Cherryville; John Jess Harrill (Jocelyn) of Boynton Beach, FL; Kim Johnson, former wife and mother of his children of Cherryville; three beautiful grandchildren Ashlynn, Brooklynn and Click Harrill all of Cherryville with whom he spent many hours; a sister Carolyn Reynolds and husband Steve of Rock Hill, SC; half Sister Anita Harry and husband Steve of Boiling Springs, SC; half brother Bobby Allen and wife Joan of Mooresboro. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Johnny's family will have a celebration of his life between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at his home, 553 Flint Hill Road, Cherryville, NC 28021 and they invite you to drop in between those hours.
In lieu of flowers the family would like any memorials to be made to the Harrill College Fund, c/o Alice Dellinger, 550 Flint Hill Road Cherryville, NC 28021 for his grandchildren's education.

We had some good times with Johnny. He was in his early twenties when I met him. He was considerate of others and he loved his family and friends.

As years pass, we realize how important family is.

My God give peace to his family knowing how much he loved them.
