Mary Lou worked at and retired from Dayton Power and Light in Brown County, Ohio. She was passionate about what meant the most to her: family, friends, and youngins. Her mother, siblings, and especially her children and grandchildren, meant the world to Mary Lou. To her, friendship meant something much deeper than most understand. She made it clear before her final breath, through her last wishes, to ensure this obituary reflected it: "how important it is to me that family means everything." If you were a true friend, you were her true family. There was no distinction of blood over bonds. In her words, Mary considered her "three different families": her 20 years at DP&L, her two-step dance club along with her clogging family, and her heart family-people who weren't necessarily related but were deeply loved. There were no gatherings or visits to Mary's place as a friend without realizing you were family to her. That's how she cared, that's how she loved. If you didn't feel her love, you weren't truly there. Her heart epitomized devoted care, genuine, natural love. Whenever she saw an opportunity to help-regardless of how big or small the task-she was there for you, no matter what she had to do. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually, she was a foundation, a pillar to lean on. She wouldn't want it any other way. She believed that a person is worth as much as their word. If Mary told you something, she always followed through. To know Mary was to know genuine, unwavering love. Mary also wanted two very special loved ones-her best friends, Helen and Peggy-to be mentioned in her memory, reflecting her unconditional love for them.
Mary Lou's life heavily consisted around this scripture that is circled in her beloved Bible:
The Bible verse that states "the greatest of all is love" is
1 Corinthians 13:13. This verse concludes the famous "Love Chapter" in the New Testament. "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
