Mary Louise Rogers Hunter was born on November 10, 1938, and peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2025 at the age of 86. She was raised in Durham, North Carolina, and was the eldest daughter of the late Merlin Pulley and James Rogers. Mary was preceded in death by her five brothers-Eugene, Ervin, Marshall, Austin, and Frank Rogers, and her sister Lillie Rogers. She is survived by one sister, Annie Earl Rogers of Durham, North Carolina. Sam Hunter, the love of her life, also preceded her in death.

A quiet yet powerful presence, Mary was known for her elegance, sharp wit and unwavering commitment to excellence. She attended Merrick Moore High School and spent most of her professional life working in the Communications Department at Duke Hospital, retiring after many years of service. In retirement, she embraced life with joy and purpose, filling her days with the people and passions she loved most. She cherished every moment spent with her family-hosting lively gatherings filled with laughter, home-cooked meals, and stories shared around the table. Entertaining was her love language, and her home was always warm and welcoming. Her favorite color was red.

One of her greatest joys was traveling the world alongside her beloved husband, Sam. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, exploring vibrant cities, scenic coastlines, and rich cultural landmarks. From cruising through the Caribbean's turquoise waters to marveling at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, each trip added a new chapter to their shared story. Whether they were strolling through marketplaces, enjoying local cuisine, or simply watching the sunset from a quiet beach, their travels were a celebration of life and love.

At home, she nurtured a deep passion for collecting African American porcelain dolls-a collection she curated with pride, each piece reflecting history, culture, and artistry. Her eye for beauty and detail was also reflected in her love of cooking shows on the Food Network, where she picked up new recipes and tips to wow her guests. And when it was time to unwind, she could often be found relaxing with a cup of tea, watching QVC and staying up-to-date on the latest trends and treasures.

Mary's greatest joy was being a mother. She leaves to mourn three daughters – Carolyn Waller and Terri Singletary of Durham North Carolina, Robin Walton of Odenton, Maryland and one son – Timothy Solomon of Gaithersburg Maryland, six grandchildren: Brian Waller, Candice Leathers, Cortney Williams, Kaylah Walton, Adam Solomon and Maya Solomon, four great-grandchildren: Brianna Anderson, Alexandria Waller, Michael Leathers Jr, Cameron Leathers, two great-great grandchildren – Kayleigh Anderson and Axeton Anderson, and host of nieces and nephews.
