Mary Alice "Myrt" Mathis Hunter, 82, of Asheville, NC passed away on November 15, 2025, at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville, NC.

Born on September 6, 1943, in Asheville, NC to the late Robert Wayne Mathis (2008) and Annie Kate Clontz Mathis. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving spouse, Charlie Hunter.

Mary was a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School. She then went on to work at the Metropolitan Sewage District. Mary was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Asheville, NC.

Surviving Mary are her children, Jeff Hunter (Anita) of Canton, NC, Jason Hunter of Asheville, NC; sister, Sandra Rogers of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Olivia Hunter of Asheville, NC, Tyler Hunter (Hannah) of Wake Forest, NC; great-grandchildren, Noah Hunter of Wake Forest, NC, Collin Hunter of Wake Forest, NC, Claire Hunter of Wake Forest, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 200 Mt. Carmel Road, Asheville, NC 28806. The family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Myrt since 1993. Loved her a lot. She was a good person. We went to the beach together a few years in a row. Had a great time with her and the other girls. Sure do miss her.
