Mary-Jane Morgan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home & Crematory - Holiday on Mar. 31, 2026.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary-Jane Morgan (nee Haaf). She departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was 90 years old.

Throughout her life, she demonstrated unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community.

She is survived by her daughter Terry Ann Morgan (husband John Sayah), her son James Lawrence Morgan (wife Tonya) and her two grandchildren Molly and Mason Morgan, and her sister Odeen Rekoske. We will all forever hold her memory close. In times of joy and sorrow, she was a source of comfort and strength, offering wisdom and understanding whenever it was needed. Mary-Jane is preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Morgan, and parents Lester and Ella Haaf.

After many years as a math teacher at the Oak Creek High School in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Mary-Jane retired in 1992, and moved from her home town of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Holiday, Florida. She joined the Ladies' Golf League at the Tarpon Springs Golf Course and enjoyed many many days on the links with her friends.

Mary-Jane had a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and later attained a Master's Degree in Education from Marquette University.

While still at college, Mary-Jane met her future husband on an anthropology field trip where she was smitten with a football player, Thomas E. Morgan. Not sure if it was Thomas' rugged good looks or the six pack of beer he was carrying on the trip that attracted her. In 1956, they married. Breaking the usual expectations at the time, that she would become a stay-at-home mom, Mary-Jane continued her full-time teaching career while raising her family.

As a High School Math teacher, her students either loved or despised her because of the daily homework assignments and quizzes. During these years, Mary-Jane's main fashion accessories were her huge tote back full of school papers and red pens. If you ever saw Mary-Jane after school hours, she would be grading huge piles of papers.

As an avid lifelong golfer who hustled little old ladies for nickels and dimes. She never said no to golf outings with her son Jim (or anyone else for that matter). In her retirement years, Mary-Jane and daughter Terry Ann traveled the world, taking cruises at least once a year.

For the last 5 years, Mary-Jane battled the vicious effects of Alzheimer's. She passed away in peace in Clearwater, Florida on March 11, 2026, at the age of 90. If you which to honor Mary-Jane's life, donations to the Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.org), or to the Tarpon Springs Shepherd Center (TSCenter.org) would be greatly appreciated.
