Mary Alice Johnson passed away on October 24, 2025 after a short painful battle with lung cancer. She passed away in St Clare's Hospital in Dover New Jersey within one mile from her long time home in Mine Hill, New Jersey. She was born in Rahway New Jersey on March 18, 1949. She was 76 years old.
She met her husband Lloyd Steven Taylor in 1998 while on the internet which turned out to be a long time love affair. They celebrated their 24th anniversary in April 2025.
Mary Alice was very intelligent having graduated from Woodbridge High School New Jersey and Douglass Womens College Rutgers at the top of her class. Shortly after graduation she went to work for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, Newark, New Jersey. She rose through the ranks to be responsible for information technology after 26 years of service until they closed in 1999. After that she worked for Ricoh Company in Caldwell New Jersey for 10 years and retired in 2009.
Mary Alice loved to cook and was known for her Chicken Marsala dish which was requested by many. And she was constantly trying new dishes which she saw on the food network. She loved to decorate the house she purchased and spent many hours at local retail stores. Her passion though in later life was ancestry research and documentation. She has documented her ancestors going back to the 1600's. Her father was born in Ireland and came here in 1922 with his mother. And her mothers parents were from Denmark and spent much time in Fords New Jersey. She also found cousins in Canada and England which she communicated with on a continuing basis.
Mary Alice was brought up in the Lutheran faith and taught Sunday school when she was younger. Her mother Elaine taught her at an early age Christian principles and she lived those her entire life.
She is survived by her beloved husband Lloyd Steven Taylor, Mine Hill, New Jersey and one sister Leslie Hawes of Arizona. And many friends including Anne and Al Cabrera of Wharton New Jersey, her much loved Goddaughter Christine Jensen, and life long friends Gloria Bobrowicz and Roberta Bolan whom she worked with.
A celebration of Mary Alice's life will be held on Friday November 14, 2025, at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main Street,
Wharton, NJ 07885 from 5pm to 7pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Alice's memory to Saint Clare's Dover Hospital, 400 West Blackwell Street, Dover, NJ 07801.
