Mary Ellen Kasprowicz, ("Meg to her friends") died peacefully in the company of family and friends on May 24, 2025, at age 93. Born Mary Ellen Greth on June 21, 1931 in Wernersville, PA, Meg graduated in 1949 as valedictorian of Wernersville High School. She earned a Bachelor's degree in education from Albright College in 1953. On June 20, 1953, she married Alfred Kasprowicz, her husband for 62 years. Meg briefly taught elementary school in Garfield Heights, Ohio, before moving to Waukesha in 1957.
Meg will be remembered as a wonderfully kind, compassionate, gentle and loving soul with a robust sense of humor. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and she thoroughly enjoyed her time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Meg enthusiastically expressed her love of music and piano playing throughout her life. She dedicated her life to helping others in various roles in the Waukesha community. She served as President of the Hadfield PTO, board member of the Mental Health Association of Waukesha and Waukesha School Board. Meg was proud of her leadership in the 1970's "New Schools Now" organization, which led to the building of Waukesha North High School. Another project near and dear to Meg's heart was her Readers Cafe program. She matched elementary school readers at Hadfield School with local mentors, who would read with them during their lunch hour. Meg led this program for many years and it made a difference for countless struggling readers.
Meg shared faith and prayer as a member of the Community of the Living Spirit (CLS) and especially enjoyed being the pianist every Christmas Eve. She and her late husband were leaders of the group and participated in many CLS endeavors such as raising money for student scholarships and food share programs. Meg was a valued member of Encore Women's Cancer Support Group.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Diane, husband Al, and brother Don. Surviving her are her daughter, Heidi (John) O'Connor; son Alfred (Geri) Kasprowicz; son Paul (Sarah) Kasprowicz; and son-in-law, James Lyon; also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Further survived by her brother Lem.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 4 to 7 pm with shared remembrance at 5 pm at her Milky Way Road home.
