Mary Lee Obituary
Published by Legacy on Sep. 1, 2025.
It is with great sadness however with extreme gratitude for the life she lived, that we share the passing of Mary (Kathy) Kathryn Lee, (nee Pegg) on September 1, 2025 in Spokane Valley, WA. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Brian Lee, sister Karen Chandler, sons Aaron and Jason, and her beloved and only grandson Shaun, along with a myriad of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard and sisters Susan, Linda, and Dawnie.
Born in Seattle, WA on November 28, 1946 to Wilfred and Blanche Pegg (nee Goldsmith), Kathy spent her formative years growing up on the Kent East Hill. She often spoke of spending summer days swimming in Lake Meridian, as the family lived just across the street. Despite not having much money, she would talk about spending the entirety of daylight hours outside with her siblings and friends, making lifelong memories. She was a proud graduate of Kent Meridian High School in 1965.
Shortly after graduating, on Aug 10, 1968, she married the love of her life, Brian and together they welcomed two children, Aaron and Jason. In 1974, they purchased a house in Renton, WA, a place they would call home for the next 50 years. There, Kathy would become known for hosting many holidays and family events, with delicious meals and drink, in a house far too small for the amount of people invited. The intimacy made the memories all the more fond. From Christmas's with gifts filling the rec-room to Seafair Sunday's with giant seafood spreads. She was always a hostess and enjoyed the pleasure of her family's company until the day of her passing. She loved spontaneous camping trips (sometimes with terrible results) and seeing new places. And lastly, yet arguably most importantly, she found joy in spending time with and being 'Grammie" to her grandson Shaun. She never hesitated at any opportunity to spend time with or take care of her beloved grandson. Though we have many blessings to be thankful for, she always expressed a wish to see Shaun graduate and sadly will not. She will however always be with him in spirit.
In between raising kids and hosting parties, Kathy held a number of jobs including an engine mechanic at Emerson Diesel, a warehouse worker at Oroweat, and a landscape maintenance worker and supervisor at Rowley Enterprises.
Though health issues slowed her in her later years, she never tired of keeping a home, taking care of flowers, or hosting her family for a meal. She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a place and time in western WA (yet to be determined) in the Spring of 26'. Kathy loved Tulips and Daffodils. It is only fitting she be surrounded by family, friends, flowers and food in honor of the life she led.
