Mary Ellen MacDonald Piekarz (née Reedy), age 89, longtime resident of the Chicago area and Wisconsin. Cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Reedy. Beloved wife of the late Joseph MacDonald and the late Robert Piekarz. Loving mother of Jackie (Butch) Sternberg, Connie (Donald) Goers, Nellie (Brian) Pearson, Joe MacDonald Piekarz, Ron (Therese Sullivan) Piekarz, Franny (Pat) Naughton, Sharon (Tom) Aubart, Bob (Sandy MacDonald) MacDonald Piekarz, and Diane (John) Grover. Proud grandmother of 30 and dear great-grandmother of 25. Fond sister of the late Clare (late Frank) Shevlin, the late Bob (late Dot) Reedy, the late Tom (late Pat) Reedy, the late Richard (late Marilyn) Reedy, and the late Roger (late Mary Kay) Reedy. Sister-in-Law to the late Carmen (late Marty) Kovach, the late Pat Frost, the late Ted (late Pat) Piekarz, Joyce (John) Hemauer, and the late Norbert (Lori) Piekarz. Loving aunt and great-aunt to many. Mary was recently professed as a Secular Franciscan and her life was centered on her family and her faith. She treasured time spent with her many friends, and enjoyed playing bridge and dominoes and time spent with the Red Hat Group. She was also an avid knitter and crocheter. The family would especially like to thank the compassionate healthcare workers who cared for Mary, and in particular her devoted caregiver, Cece Toepfer. Memorial Visitation and Mass will be held at Mayslake Village Chapel, Oak Brook, on Saturday, October 25, with Franciscan memorial beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the St. Clare Fraternity of the Secular Franciscans at Mayslake Village are appreciated.
