It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Lou Markstrom, of Michigan, shares the news of her passing on February 24, 2025, at the age of 85.
Mary Lou was born on February 18, 1940, to Samuel and Hollis Wallace. She was the youngest of their three children. She grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan and graduated from Dondero High School. Mary Lou met her wonderful husband, John R., at the Totem Pole on Woodward Ave. They were married for 55 wonderful years.
After raising three children, Mary Lou had a successful career at Merrill Lynch as a Registered Client Associate and Trader. During retirement, Mary Lou and John traveled extensively across North America in their RV. Eventually parking in Port Charlotte, Florida, to be closer to her brother & sister-in-law, Jim & Donna Wallace, and the many new friends gained along the way.
Mary Lou was very philanthropic. Whenever she was asked by her children, Karen and Joel, to support their favorite charities, she was always happy to contribute.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Karen (Gary) May, her son, Joel (Kris Townsend) Markstrom, and two grandchildren, Brian (Eleni) May and Robert (Annie) May.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Hollis, her loving husband, John Raymond, her son, John David, her sister, Peggy Wallace, and her brother, James Wallace.
A Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 26, at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Michigan, from 5-8pm. Family is invited to join Karen and Joel at 4pm. A Funeral Service will be given the following morning, Thursday, February 27, 11am, at the Funeral home. Friends may visit on Thursday beginning at 10:30am. A luncheon will follow.
