Mary Massad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by K.V. Knopp Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
Mary Ann Massad of Allentown, Pennsylvania has been welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord on December 8th, 2025 at the age of 89. A native of Clifton, New Jersey, Mary Ann is now reunited with her devoted husband Leo, son Stephen, and brother Paul. She continues to live on in the hearts of daughters Julie, Vicki, and Mary; sons John and Thomas; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; as well as brothers Stephen, Robert, and John; and sister Janet.

Mary Ann's time on earth was truly an amazing and blessed adventure. As a young stewardess for Capitol Airlines, she met the love of her life in a true "Coffee, Tea or Me?" encounter that blossomed into a marriage lasting more than 65 years. After raising five children, Mary Ann's hunger for travel led her to become a realtor and eventually a travel agent. Often alongside her beloved Leo, she experienced exploits all across the United States, throughout eastern and western Europe, touched down for visits in South America and Japan, and even celebrated one New Year's Eve by snowmobiling inside the Arctic Circle.

An avid reader, fervent jigsaw puzzler, and not-too-shabby tennis player in her prime, Mary Ann was far from being a wallflower. Rather, Mary Ann always "gave as good as she got." Confident, intelligent, and sharp-witted, she led by example and inspired the women in her family to be strong and independent.

Mary Ann's devotion to family and community was also seen in her years of commitment to the Catholic church through supporting a wide range of parish activities, not the least of which was as a catechism instructor for young children.

Mary Ann reiterated many times her desire for her loved ones to vigorously celebrate her life rather than mourn her passing. To that wish, following a graveside ceremony at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson, NJ at a date to be determined, the family will gather at a restaurant in Clifton, NJ for antipasto, pizza, a bit of chianti, and possibly a gin and tonic or two.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Mary Ann's name to either the Allentown, PA Public Library (www.allentownpl.org) or your local public library.
