MARY ELIZABETH MAXIE

Mary Elizabeth Roach Maxie was born on May 10, 1932, in Priscilla, Texas, Anderson County to Ennis and Carrie Lee Owens Roach. When Mary was two years old, her mother passed away and then she was raised by her grandparents Hubert and Mary Jane Owens, in the Union Hope Community of Slocum, Texas. She graduated from Henry High School in Elkhart, Texas. After graduation, she moved to Dallas, Texas where she started working and going to school.  Mary finished nursing school and received her LVN certificate.

Mary was a hard worker and a dedicated employee.  She worked for Texas Instruments for over 20 years, the Dallas Independent School District and ended her career as a supervisor for DART. 

Her church affiliation began as a child at the Union Hope Baptist Church, Elkhart, Texas.  She later became a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Greater Golden Gate Baptist Church and currently was a member of The Way, the Truth, and the Life Christian Church, formerly known as Denley Drive Christian Church. Mary was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho, American Beauty Court #102.

Mary was quick-witted and would say what she wanted to say.  She had a keen sense of humor and truly enjoyed life to the fullest. She is predeceased by her grandparents, parents, little brother, sister: Laverne Jackson; and husband: Oscar Maxie. 

Left to cherish her memories are her loving daughters:  Amye Burnett and Rose Taylor (Lee), Arlington, Texas; granddaughter: Brandi Elizabeth Burnett; grandson: Isaac Chika Okpe; special granddaughters: Shanicqua Harrell and Shauntie Phillips; 7 great-grandchildren:  Mar’shay, Isaac (Pac Man), Alayja (LaLa), Isaac III (King), Joy Sunshine, Royalty, and Roy Lee; her sisters: Marjorie Cary (Isaac, Sr.), Dallas, Texas; Shirley Alexander, Derry, New Hampshire; and Opal Roach, Fort Worth, Texas; Because of her giving spirit, Mary helped raise many other children in the family and community.  Her door was always open.  She also leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives, church members and friends who will remember her fondly.
