Mary Katherian "Kathy" (McKenna) Otter, 72, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at her home in Hoxie, Kansas. She was born to Francis E. and Lenore Ann (Donovan) McKenna on February 17, 1949, in Norton, Kansas. She had four brothers and was the only girl. Kathy attended the Jennings Schools graduating with the class of 1967. She met Nicholas Joseph Otter through a church activity. Nick Otter a thierr nd Kathy McKenna were united in marriage at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville, Kansas on June 7, 1969. After they were married, Nick and Kathy made their home in Hoxie until 1972 when they moved to Topeka, Kansas. In 1978, they moved back to Hoxie where they have continued to make their home.
After moving back to Hoxie, Kathy babysat for a while, worked for The Hungry Farmer and Getz IGA as a checker. Kathy enjoyed each of her jobs. She enjoyed doing embroidery and cross-stitch. She loved to travel and was so willing to go anywhere when she got the chance. Kathy loved children, enjoyed talking to people and was such a kind and friendly person. Kathy always had a smile for anyone she met. Her family brought her boundless joy, and she loved them so much. They were so important to her.
Kathy leaves to mourn her passing, husband, Nick of Hoxie, Kansas; son, Sean Otter of Hoxie, Kansas; daughters, D'Ann Gardner and husband Rick of Mankato, Kansas and Pam Diekmann and husband Nathan of White City, Kansas; brothers, Pat McKenna (Shelley) of Jennings, Kansas, Mike McKenna (Joan) of Jennings, Kansas, Jerry McKenna of Jennings, Kansas and Greg (Paula) of Selden, Kansas; grandchildren, Jalen Basart, Rylan Basart, Parker Diekmann, Mason Diekmann; Step-Grandchildren, Nicholas Gardner, Nathan Gardner (Brooke), and Audrea Badger (Matthew); Great-Grandchildren, Layne Badger, Jace Badger, Hadlee Badger, Kathryn Gardner, and Reina Gardner; and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lenore McKenna; infant daughter, and infant son, Daniel Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 10, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie, Kansas. Immediately following the service interment will take place in the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Cemetery. Visitation and a Vigil Service will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022. The visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 7:00 P.M. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 P.M., all at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas. Family will receive friends at the visitation from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan County Benefit Walk, Hospice of Northwest Kansas, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Cemetery or Masses.
