Mary Catherine Mitchell

Mary Catherine Cook Mitchell, 84, a resident of Essex, Maryland, passed from this life Sunday, August 17, 2025, at home.

Mary was born, Thursday, May 29, 1941, in Bass, WV, a daughter of the late Lee W. Cook and Pauline V. Mongold Cook. She was married to Dale Raylynn "Tuke" Mitchell who preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Michael Mitchell and wife Carol, Sandra Mitchell, Janet Mitchell, grandchildren, Jennifer, Gary, Alexandra, Stephanie, Kimberly, Matthew, Christopher, Joshua, Courtney, Ariel, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way, Baby Williams, and nine siblings.

Preceding her in death beside her parents and husband, was one grandson, Kenneth, and four siblings.

Mary attended school in a one room school house in Moorefield. She had been employed for the Baltimore County public school system and operated a daycare in her home in Essex on Old Eastern Avenue. For most of her life, Mary was more concerned about others than herself. She loved people. Even with her dementia, she would ask how people in her church family with disabilities or struggles were doing. Mary was Christian by faith.

Visitation will be held at the Hostetler Funeral Home Friday, August 22, 2025, from 11 am until 1 pm, the funeral hour. Pastor Andrew Keatts will officiate, and interment will follow in Fansler Cemetery.
