Mary Ann Hartman Mooers, 78, of Zirconia, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 surrounded by her family following a long battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Hartman, Jr. and Virginia Clark Hartman; and her son, Marcus Hartman Mooers.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter-in-law, Megan A. Mooers; a brother, William E.
Hartman, III (Harriet); a niece, Rachael Mary Ann Jorgensen; and her nephew, William E. Hartman, IV.
Born in 1946 in Huntington, New York, she grew up in Birmingham, Michigan where she graduated from Bloomfield Hills High School and later attended Boston University where she earned a degree in Journalism. Throughout her life she made an impact at various companies such as Raytheon, General Motors, Pardee Hospital, as well as owning her own business before retiring.
Mary Ann was a strong and independent woman with a sharp wit, a great sense of humor, and was a loyal friend.
She was a lifelong horse woman. Mary Ann competed as a youth at the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club in hunter/jumper events. She would trail ride whenever she could and competed in weekend long team trail ride events in the Asheville area. As a lover of animals of all kinds she always had a house full of cats, dogs and birds. Mary Ann was a wildlife rehabilitator for a period of time. Once she took a clutch of baby Bluebirds with her to a business meeting as they needed to be fed constantly during daylight hours. As a great nature photographer she had many of her photos sold in the area as note cards. She loved the outdoor world around her.
We will all miss her but are comforted by knowing that she is in heaven with her son and is no longer in relentless pain. There will be a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
