George Raymond Mooers 93, passed away at the Oceanside Nursing Home, Hampton NH after a period of failing health.
Born in Haverhill Mass he attended local schools and graduated from Whittier Vocational-Technical High School having learned the printing trade. He worked at several local papers before Enlisting in the United States Navy.
George settled in California for most of his adult life where he raised his family and worked several jobs until finding a career with the Tandy Leather Corp managing several company stores.
He was a skilled leather craftsman and a member of the Leather Craftsman Guild of America. His work won several awards. Later in his career George enjoyed teaching and sharing his knowledge and skill hosting classes and workshops for Tandy Leather. He was always generous with his time, smile and sense of humour. Not one to find retirement entirely to his liking he started his own business making custom leather pieces for the large customer base he had earned.
He was a member of the Raymond Wheaton Post VFW where he enjoyed a game of pool and the comradery he found there.
George loved life and adventure. He was a 2023 participant in the NH Senior Olympics, winning several medallions. He would go for walks, shopping, canoeing at Pawtuckaway lake, riding his bike and driving to the seacoast which included a stop for ice cream and fried clams!He was learning to play the Ukelele, loved listening to live music and a good card game.
He enjoyed animal companionship,naps with his cat Cuddles and visits with his favorite Chocolate labrador, Alice.
George is predeceased by his parents Raymond Chester Mooers and Eunice June (Fuller) Mooers, his beloved wife Sandra Mooers, his daughter Sharon Marie Mooers, his sister Janet Marchisio and brother Gerald Mooers.
He leaves his Son George (Skip) Mooers of California, Sister Lorraine Durling of Raymond NH, Several step daughters in California, Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews who will miss him very much
There will be a Celebration of Life, held at the Raymond VFW Wheaton Post Sunday December 14 from 1-3pm.
