Walter Palmer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brewitt Funeral Home, LLC - Raymond on Feb. 26, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter "Walt" Lawrence Palmer, 80, of Tamworth, New Hampshire, who passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 24, 2026, after a period of declining health.

Walt was born on June 2, 1945, to Doris "Babe" Eaton and Wilfred "Wolf" Martin. He was raised in Raymond, New Hampshire, by his mother and stepfather, William Palmer, who lovingly adopted him as his own son.

Walt proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and later continued his service in the Army Reserves. Being a Marine was one of his greatest honors, and he often reminded his grandchildren, "Once a Marine, always a Marine."

Following his military service, Walt worked as a truck driver for more than 40 years, carrying out his career with dedication and pride. He also served as Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Raymond for five years and was a lifetime member. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion in Laconia. Even after retirement, Walt remained active by repairing small engines, always taking pride in his work and doing things his own way.

Walt had a deep love for his family and found great joy in camping, racing, sharing stories, and making people laugh with his quick wit. You always knew when Walt was in the room-there would be laughter, a story being told, or a spirited comment delivered with a smile.

He is survived by his two daughters, Tammy Souza and her husband, Rick, of Somersworth, and Wanda Allen and her husband, Edward, of Laconia; four grandchildren, Todd Smith and his wife, Jamie, of Ashland, New Hampshire; Nicole Smith of Tilton, New Hampshire; Ashley Aistrop of Jenkins, Kentucky; and Christopher Allen of Laconia; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eric Palmer and Morris Palmer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Walt was predeceased by his beloved wife of 17 years, Theresa Palmer, whom he adored; his parents, Doris "Babe" Eaton, Wilfred "Wolf" Martin, and William Palmer; his brothers, Paul Palmer and Winston Edwards; his nephew, Eddie Weber; his sister-in-law, Lois Palmer; his infant daughter, Linda Palmer; and his infant great-granddaughter, Abigail Back.

Walt will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. His pride in his service, his devotion to his family, and his unforgettable sense of humor will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Burial with Military Honors will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11 AM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at VFW Maple-Weadon Post 4479, 39 Main Street, Raymond, New Hampshire. Brewitt Funeral Home, 2 Epping St., Raymond, NH is handling the arrangements.
