Mary Anne Nakasone, age 98, long-time resident of White Bear Lake and Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on July 1, 1927, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to John and Gertrude (Grell) Costello. She graduated from the College of St. Catherine and went on to serve as a dedicated librarian and educator in the White Bear Lake Public School System. Mary was the beloved wife of Edwin M. Nakasone for 71 years; loving mother of John G. (Jacqueline) Nakasone and Paul M. (Susan) Nakasone; cherished grandmother of Jacob (Allie) Nakasone, Mariko (Dan) Dahl, Natalie Nakasone, Sarah Nakasone, Daniel Nakasone, David Nakasone, and Joseph Nakasone; and proud great-grandmother to Charlotte, Lucy, Vivian, Madeline, Elliana, Genevieve, Seamus, and Declan. She is survived by her brother-in-law, James S. (Norma) Nakasone and sister-in-law, Christine Costello. She was preceded in death by her siblings John (Virginia) Costello, Gertrude (John) Ivory, Eileen (Bernie) Schwartzbauer, and Richard Costello. Mary found joy in the simple beauties of life-spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; opening a new book; hearing the chime of bells; and savoring the elegance of finely lettered calligraphy. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 9:30AM with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30AM at Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church, 1938 Stanford Avenue, Saint Paul. Interment will be private. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
