CLEBURNE - Mary Esther Newman, 76, passed away at home surrounded by her family after a hard battle with Parkinson's disease on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Mount Olivet Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 12 p.m. in Mount Olivet Chapel.
Mary was born on September 18, 1948, to Aubrey Lee Edmondson and Dorothy Marie Wheat. She lived in Fort Worth, Hurst, Alvarado, and Burleson, Texas, where she was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and eventually settled in Cleburne, Texas, where she became a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She graduated from Nolan Catholic High School, and was a Sunday school teacher and taught at Vacation Bible school for many years.
Mary adored all children, especially her seven children unconditionally. She was an animal lover and especially loved baby goats. She had a large collection and assortment of teddy bears and loved pink. But most of all, she loved her husband, Sterling, devotedly for nearly 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edie Morey; and her great aunt, Esther.
Mary is survived by her spouse, Sterling Jay Newman; her daughters, Melissa Kay Andres (Mark), Monica Lynn Tharpe (Tommy), Denise Ann Newman, Dana Rene Quick (Jeff), and Chelle Marie Scott (Wendell); her sons, Jared Lee Newman (Sarah), and Jay William Newman; grandson, Clay Quick (Cynthia); granddaughters, Erika Enochs, Jessica Enochs, Crystal Quick, and Jess Perez; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
