Mary of the Immaculate Conception Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Sr. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, O.P., a Cloistered Dominican Nun of the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament in Farmington Hills, Michigan, died peacefully in our infirmary on September 30, 2025, at the age of 96. Lucy Anna DiPaolo was born on March 31, 1929 in Flint, Michigan. She was the daughter of Michael Louis and Antoinette (Cajka) DiPaolo, both long deceased. She is also predeceased by her older sister, Josephine, who died of cancer some years ago and her younger brother, John. Sister was always an affable, genial person with a heart ready and willing to do whatever was asked of her, be it to prepare the meals, scrub the floors or feed the dogs! She loved doing the latter and in her old age was always concerned that they had enough to eat and were well cared for. To the very end of her life, when she was confined to her wheelchair, she would ask for some tidbits to give to them as they hovered around her wheelchair trying to lick her face. Sister spent many hours in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament where she would faithfully pray her Rosary for all those who had asked her to remember them in prayer. She never forgot her family or friends and their needs. Surely, she will continue that intercession now, in eternal life. Sister is survived by her nieces, nephews and dear friends of the family who have kept in touch throughout the years. Notable are her nephews, Dave, Mark and Chris as well as her nieces, Janice and Karen. There may be other living family members of whom we are unaware, but all can be sure that Sister has and will continue to pray for them now in the presence of the angels. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, October 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Guild Room at the Monastery. The Wake Service with Rosary & Night Prayer will begin at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 8th at 10:30 a.m. in the Monastery Chapel, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. After the Mass, a luncheon will be provided in the adjoining Guild Room for those in attendance. All welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to our Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament or a charity of your choice that supports the poor and needy.
