Mary Esther Parrish, age 82, of Marion, Illinois, passed away on February 18, 2026, in Benton, Illinois, surrounded by loved ones.
Mary was born on September 20, 1943, in Marion, Illinois, to Obie Utley and Helen “Mombo” Utley.
Mary loved to sing—more than anything. Her voice was a gift she shared freely, and she was proud to have recorded her own CD album of songs. She enjoyed watching others dance, spending time at “The Club,” and being with her family. She had a servant’s heart and found joy in caring for others. She worked as a waitress at Cracker Barrel, where her kindness and warm spirit touched many.
She is survived by her children, Tammy (Dave) Cain, Marty Parrish, and Lucas (Christie) Parrish; her grandchildren, Daniel (Jilliane) Kettwig, Deric Kettwig, Kevin Cain, Jeremy Parrish, Cody Parrish, Kelli (Mason) Dodd, Landon Parrish, Keelan Parrish, Jarika (Matthew) Wagner; her siblings, Paul (Judy) Utley, James Utley, Ruth “Eth” Pate, and Steve (Reba) Utley; and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Obie and Mary; her siblings, Janet “Queen” Stanley, Lene Hope, Don Utley, Thomas “Big T” Utley, Obie Utley, and Betty Jane Utley; her daughter in law, Nancy Parrish; her brother in law, James Pate; and sister-in-law Karen Utley.
