Mary Thelma Pence Mattingly, 84, passed away at her home on September 19, 2025, under the watchful eyes of her children, grandchildren and siblings.
Thelma was born in Knottsville on August 3, 1941, to the late Bob and Charlesetta Johnson Pence. She worked for many years in the cafeteria at Mary Carrico School and at the Passionist Nuns of St. Joseph Monastery. Thelma enjoyed cooking, bingo, playing card games and sitting and talking on the deck with her kids and grandkids. She was a graduate of St. William High School and a lifetime member of St. William Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles “Binky” Mattingly; grandson, Keaton Payne; sister, Jane Benner; and brother Charles Pence.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Cindy Mattingly (David Goetz), Janet Lanham (Tater), Jill Mattingly (Jimmy Mattingly), Johna Lewis (Terrance), and Jamie Mattingly (Amy); 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; her brother, Jack Pence; a sister, Kathy Pence; sisters-in-law, Mary Pence, Lynn Pence and Donna Mattingly; brother-in-law, Bill Mattingly, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass for Thelma will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at St. William Catholic Church at 11 am. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 until 7 pm with prayers at 5 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and on Tuesday from 9 until 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. William Cemetery in Knottsville, Kentucky.
