Mary Susan Peterson, 89, of Dillon, Colorado, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Lorin Donald Hargrove and Helen Ortman. She married the love of her life, Dr. Jerry D. Peter-son, DDS, and together they built a beautiful life centered on love, family, and community. They were among the first residents to build a home in the re-established town of Dillon as Dillon Lake was being created.
In her early years, Sue began her career as an elementary school teacher, teaching in California, Minnesota, and Colorado. As her kids started ski racing she transitioned to an accounting position at Cooper Mountain Ski Resort. She was deeply committed to service and was well known for her outstanding volunteer work with Summit High School, where she helped organize the Frisco Gold Rush and Summit High School cross-country and Alpine ski races. Sue also volunteered at Lord of the Mountain Lutheran Church and served as a member of the Summit County Library Board. She enjoyed her involvement with the local P.E.O. organization.
Sue is survived by her husband, Dr. J.D. Peterson; her children, Lori Lange and Scott Peterson (Nicole); and her beloved grandchildren, Leah and Wyatt Lange, and Zoe and Margot Peterson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate).
Sue's warmth, spirit, smile, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
