Mary Pickel Obituary
Mary Lorene Bookout Pickel, age 85 of Etowah, passed away Tuesday, March 24th, 2026 in Normal, IL. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Mary never met a stranger and offered help to anyone in need. She was a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters Sherry Berry (George), Celeste Long (Mike), and Katherine Verlene Cox (Harold); companion, Darwin Hinthorn; grandchildren, Will Poteet, II, Waylon Poteet, Ryan Cook, Caitlin Stephens, Luke Cox; several great grandchildren; siblings, Tommy Bookout (Judy), Sally Kindle (Rich), Martha Lou Sisson (Vestal), Robert Bookout (Libby), Blanche Wilson (Chris); several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her infant daughter Kathy Bazzell; parents, Jim and Jackie Bookout; brothers Jimmy, Jackie Bookout.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 29th, 2026 from 2 PM to 4 PM at Poole Funeral Home, Etowah. A funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at 4 PM by her nephew, Jason Collins. Family and friends will meet at Poole Funeral Home, Etowah Monday, March 30th, 2026 at 10 AM to go in procession to Massingale Bookout Cemetery. Poole Funeral Home, Etowah is honored to serve the Pickel family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bookout-Massingale cemetery where Mary will be put to rest
