Mary Ruth Pickerill

Mary Ruth Pickerill, 89, of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, at Hospice in Louisville.

She was born in Clarkson to Cletus and Eulad Hale Meredith. Ruth was the proud owner of Ruth's Daycare from 1973 until 1998, where she cared for countless children with love and dedication. She was deeply committed to helping others and lived a life of service. A longtime member of College Heights United Methodist Church, she also was one of its founders. In addition, she was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin Pickerill; her son, Steve Pickerill; her parents; her brother, Joseph Meredith; her sister, Betty Joe Meredith Gilland; and many dear friends.

Mary Ruth is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Marvin) Pickerill-Darlington of Clarkson; her granddaughter, Kendra Pickerill and Paul Hershberg of Louisville; her two grandsons, Jordan (Sherry) Darlington of Sonora and Jacob (Stephanie) Pickerill of New Albany, Indiana; her granddaughter, Meredith Darlington of Elizabethtown; six great-great-grandchildren, Tristan, Addison, Ireland, Declan, Gram, and Silas; five nephews, Ricky, Roy Wayne, David and Danny; and her niece, Debbie.

The funeral is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Ernie Bagley officiating. Burial follows in Clarkson Cemetery in Clarkson.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home..
