Mary Lena Northcutt Pruitt, age 91, a beloved figure of Cumming, Forsyth County, and many areas beyond, sadly left our world on March 25, 2025 after a life richly lived in service to her Lord and Savior and kindness to everyone she met. She is known as the best Mama, best and coolest Grandma, and best cook in the world. Mary was a beacon of light and hope in our community, touching lives through church sponsored activities, such as Bible school teacher, food service coordinator, and the human prayer chain before the existence of such technology, and many others. She also loved taking care of the elderly, visiting all the local nursing home every week for as long as she was able. Mary was a wealth of knowledge about her community. She remembered up until the day she died everybody’s names, all their sisters and brothers, who they married, who their children were, their names and who they married and who their children were and on and on.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Rev Edwin Pruitt, her parents John Northcutt and Mary Eva McAlister Northcutt, brother - Charles and Geneva Northcutt, sisters - Frances and Preston (Buck) McCleskey, Susie and Marvin Thompson, Pearl and Denver McBrayer, Christine and Charles McPherson and brother-in-law Felton Thornton. She is survived by her children - Dyanne and Bill Watson, Janice Pruitt, and Eddie and Karen Pruitt; Grandchildren - Dyanne’s children Jennifer Watson, Billy and Carmen Watson, Mary Catherine and Chris Shadburn, Eddie’s children, Kelby and Bennett Mayfield, Deidra and Paul Dankewich; Great-grandchildren - Jennifer’s children Austin Knight and Ellie Akins, (Ellie’s dad Jerry Michael Akins), Billy’s children Brantley and Braden Watson, Mary Catherine’s children Lucas Watson and Liam Shadburn, Kelby’s children Baylor and Brooks Mayfield, Diedra’s children and stepchildren, Jaimsley and Paxton Blake, and Luke, Logan, and Jude Dankewich; Great-great-grandchild - Austin’s daughter, Natalee Reid, brother - Bill and Lucy Northcutt, sisters - Eva Mae (Dolly) Thornton and Barbara and Lewis Ledbetter, very special family, Sheila Carmichael and Sandy Beane and many, many nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitations at Ingram Funeral Home, located at 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, Georgia. Visitations will be held on Thursday March 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A final visitation will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Ingram Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Shad Faulkner, Rev. Larry Vaughan, Rev. Bud Sutton, Rev. Lucas Watson and Rev. Stephen Northcutt officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
