Mary Catherine (Frembgen) Roemen, age 88 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, December 9th Lyon County Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, IA. With Fr. Sunny Dominic, Celebrant.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, December 13, 2024, with a Rosary to follow also at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, IA.
Mary was born January 4, 1936, to John & Mary (McGuire) Frembgen in Rock Valley, IA.
She graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1954. On May 14, 1955, Mary joined Marvin Roemen in holy matrimony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Valley.
The couple resided in Alvord, IA and in 1956 moved to a farm near Rock Rapids where they raised their 9 children. Mary was diligent in keeping up with her diaries which detailed all things happening with the children and farming. After raising her children, Mary worked part-time at Lyon Manor Care Center in Rock Rapids. Marvin & Mary retired from farming in 2007 and moved to Rock Rapids. After retirement, they enjoyed many trips together.
Mary was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America in Rock Rapids since 1956. Mary loved her bridge clubs and playing card games with her children and grandchildren. You never sat down with Mary for long before she would say, “who wants to play cards?” She loved to teach the rules of the games to everyone and usually changed these rules during the game when the time suited her. Mary loved holidays and spending time with as many family members as possible.
Mary is survived by her husband, Marvin of 69 years; 9 children & their spouses, Randal (Mariann) Roemen, Kathleen (Doug) Oldaker, Kenneth (Lisa) Roemen, Gregory (Stacey) Roemen, Karen Brink, Brian (Julie) Roemen, John Roemen, Matthew (Kecia) Roemen, Steve (Sara) Roemen; 18 grandchildren, Daniel, Alan, Jennifer, Christina, Jacklynn, David, Jared, Monica, Paige, Alexander, Tessa, Linnea, Thomas, Lukas, Markus, Caleb, Madelyn, Vivian; 14 great-grandchildren, Melanie, Taylor, Celeste, Natalie, Harper, Isabel, Athena, Bradley, Audrey, Tanner, Braxton, Mackenzie, Gavin, Rhea, with two more on the way in 2025; step-great-grandchildren: Kenley and Eli, sisters-in-law: Bernadine Schlotfeldt, Eleanor Childress, Carol Roemen, Jane Frembgen, Devona Frembgen, and brothers-in-law: Roger Roemen, Bill Vermulm and many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents John & Mary (Mae), her inlaws John & Loretta Roemen; brothers David, Jack, Vernon & Roger, sister, Phyllis and twin sister, Martha; brothers-in-law: Roger Schlotfeldt, Larry Childress, Tom McCarty, Robert Sullivan and Ronald Roemen; sister-in-law, Evelyn Vermulm.
