Bridgeport Township, Michigan
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-mother and sister was called home to her Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Covenant Medical Center – Cooper in Saginaw. Age 89 years. Mary Louise (Knorr) Sampson was born on July 24, 1934, in Shepherd, Michigan, to the late Charles and Alda (Freeman) Knorr. Mary was baptized through a Church down in a river in Oil City, Michigan. She was married to Lloyd C. Sampson on June 20, 1953, in Oil City, Michigan, and he predeceased her on March 1, 2007.
Surviving are her two daughters, Ramona Barnes and her husband, Steve Barnes and Elaine Sampson; her grandchildren, Jonathan C. (Mandi) Fick and Jennifer C. (Charlie) Kohfield; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Jeffrey, Alexis and Wesley; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends. Besides her parents and her husband, Mary was predeceased by her son, David L. Sampson on December 3, 1996, also six brothers and sisters.
Mary was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and its Dorcas Society (women's group). She served on the Altar Guild; helped with V.B.S., also Sunday school helping hands; went to Bible study; member of the Shepherd's program; door greeter and worked the Concordia Case. Her memberships included Faith Ev. Lutheran Church of Bridgeport, Life member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary 6579 New Lothrop, MI. She worked at Bridgeport Elementary / Schluckebier School, where she was a playground supervisor for 17 years, from 1964 to 1981. She also worked at Burger King in Bridgeport as a Hostess from 1981 to 1991. Her hobbies were camping, crocheting and she painted the Last Supper, that her husband bought for her, which she has hanging in her living room.
The Celebration of Mary's Life will take place at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Wakeman Funeral Home, 1218 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, Michigan. Pastor Timothy Behnke will officiate. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, 4241 Williamson, Bridgeport, MI 48722.
