Mary Scolastico, of Saugus, formerly of East Boston passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29th after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Italy on March 5, 1934, to Salvatore and Maria Cerundolo. She was the devoted wife to the late Joseph Scolastico. Mary was a loving mother to her three children, Dona de Grisanty, Mary Davis and son in law Rich, Michael Scolastico and daughter in law Julie. She is also survived by her loving brother Anthony and his wife Joyce, her brother-in-law, Michael Scolastico, and sister in laws, Vera Scolastico and Louise Briere. She was the cherished Nana to Torie, Gianna, Matthew, Joseph, Michael and Peter. Loving Nonnie to Beau and Brady Baril and Grandma to Mia Scolastico.
She was predeceased in death by her sisters MaryAnn and Rose and brother Michael. Loving Auntie to many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Mary also leaves her beloved puppy, Cali, whom she loved and spoiled.
Mary was blessed with a strong work ethic and worked over 40+ years at the Department of Revenue retiring two months before her 80th birthday. Mary loved to travel and spent many of her trips in Arizona with her daughter Mary's family or in California with her treasured great-grandsons, Beau and Brady. Those were her happiest times. Mary was a member of the Golden Age Club, the Anna DiFronzo Senior Center, the East Boston Senior Social Center and the Saugus Senior Center, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends, attending meetings, dinners, dances, and planning trips. Mary loved her politics, her President, Tom Brady, playing the lottery, and trips to the casino. Mary was happiest being surrounded by her family and her friends.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her selflessness, her generosity, and her strength. She was a fighter until the end and will be deeply missed. Mary lived a full life surrounded by love, family, and friends, and would want us to celebrate her life as she lived it.
Family and friends will honor Mary's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga StreetC East Boston on Wednesday, September 3rd from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Parish, Brooks Street, for a funeral Mass celebrating her life at 10:30 A.M. Services will conclude with Mary being laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
May she rest in peace. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Mary, please visit our Tree Store.
