Mary Helen Seyforth

Mary Seyforth, 93, of Roseville, MN, passed away on October 7, 2025. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15 at North Presbyterian Church, North Saint Paul, MN. Committal service will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday October 15 at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mary Helen Uhrie was born in Bloomington, IL on January 10, 1932, the daughter of Raymond Uhrie and Orva (Burton) Uhrie. She grew up in Bloomington, graduating from High School in 1949. She enrolled in Illinois State Normal University in Bloomington where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1953. Wanting to stay close to family and friends in Bloomington, she accepted a position in Springfield, IL, in fall 1953 teaching Kindergarten at Enos Elementary in the morning and Douglas Elementary in the afternoon – taking the bus between them. The next two school years she taught Kindergarten full time at Enos. She spent summers living with her parents in Bloomington. It was in Bloomington in the Spring of 1955 that she met an insurance adjuster, H. Craig Seyforth, on a blind double date. They would marry in Bloomington a year later on April 28, 1956, settling there. Mary taught Kindergarten at Sheridan Elementary School during the 1956 – 1958 school years. Preparing to raise a family, she stopped teaching. She always considered herself fortunate to be a stay-at-home parent raising her three children. In October 1968 Craig changed employers to State Farm Insurance. Offered options of cities to be assigned work in, they chose St. Paul and moved there in November 1968. St. Paul was close to Craig's parents and was also the home of Mary's best friend since grade school, Carroll (Henry) Keller. They built a house near the Keller's in Maplewood, MN where they lived from 1969 -2019. Active members of North Presbyterian Church in North St. Paul, they volunteered on various church committees and participated in church social groups. Mary performed at community events for over 30 years with "The Choral Bells," a community bell ringing ensemble directed by Carroll Keller which was supported by North Presbyterian Church. Over three decades she enjoyed reuniting annually with five teacher friends from her undergraduate days during group trips to various sites in the Midwest. An accomplished seamstress, she also knitted and created Hardanger embroidery. She and Craig enjoyed monthly activities over the last four decades with an informal group of friends, "The A-Z Club," named because the last names of members ranged from A-Z. Her final years were spent at the senior living community, Sunrise of Roseville, in Roseville, Minnesota. Mary is survived by her children, Scott of Madison, WI, Katie (Hammer) of Frederic, WI, Ann (Rausch) of Shoreview, MN; grandchildren, Christine McGie, John Farrell, and Henry Rausch; great grandchildren, Everett and Liam McGie. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Craig Seyforth, her parents, Raymond and Orva Uhrie, and a sister, Betty Ray (Uhrie) Martin.
