Mary Helen Sharp

Mary Helen Sharp (née Van Bergen), age 79, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Ames Family Hospice House (Hospice of the Western Reserve), surrounded by loved ones. Born in Cleveland, Mary was a proud graduate of Kent State University, where she earned her degree in education. She began her career as a teacher in North Olmsted, but soon left the profession to start a family business with her husband, Jeff. She played a vital role in growing the business for over 30 years. Mary and Jeff married on June 29, 1968, at the West Park United Church of Christ in Kamm's Corners. Together, they raised their family in Olmsted Falls before eventually settling in Valley City and later North Ridgeville. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary's greatest joy came from spending time with her sons and grandchildren. She found endless happiness in their accomplishments. She also enjoyed a lifelong love of sports and games-playing golf and bridge with friends. Her favorite sport was tennis and she loved playing in her tennis league. Most of all, she valued the friendships she made within these groups. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jeff; her sons, Brian (Kelly) Sharp and Jason (Michelle) Sharp; her cherished grandchildren, Katelyn and Justin; and step-grandchildren Emily, Dan, and Alex. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Van Bergen and Gayle Van Bergen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen (née Reitz) Van Bergen; her brothers, Richard and Robert Van Bergen; and her sister, Carol Van Bergen. In accordance with her wishes, services will be private.
