William Sharp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benton County Funeral Home on Jan. 30, 2026.
William "Billy" F. Sharp was born September 27, 1926, to William and Claris Sharp in the War Eagle Community. Affectionately known as "The Mayor of War Eagle," Billy was known for his unwavering commitment to his country and community. At 17, Billy purchased the War Eagle Mercantile. The following year, he was drafted to the U.S. Navy, serving two years on the USS Huntington. Upon returning home, Billy focused on farming and running the mercantile.

A pioneer of Benton County, Billy played key roles in the formation of Hobbs State Park and the installation of electricity and water for rural areas. Billy was involved in local, county, and state politics throughout his life. He served as the Benton County District 13 Justice of the Peace for over 24 years. Through Arkansas Farm Bureau, he spent over 14 years on the county and state boards advocating for farmers. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Little Springs Lodge #230. Billy spent his entire life in War Eagle, growing crops and raising his beloved cattle. Billy shared 68 loving years with his wife Lucy, and together they founded the Sharps' Show craft fair.

He was preceded in death by his son, Frank; his parents; and siblings Harriett, Doris Ann, Barbara, and James. He is survived by his wife Lucy; daughters Marie Marsh and Anita Overbey (Carl); grandchildren Jake Overbey (Holly), and Meagan Coffelt (Steven); great-grandchildren William and Luke Overbey, and Liam, Jackson, and Stella Coffelt; sisters, Arlene, Belle, and Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Benton County Funeral Home 306 N. 4th St Rogers, Arkansas. Funeral Services will be at 1:00p.m. Friday, February 6, 2026 at the Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Austin Cemetery. Online condolences to www.bentoncountyfuneralhome.com
