Peter Clair Metzger

Peter Clair Metzger, 86, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. He was born to the late James Lawrence Metzger and Helen Briggs Metzger on February 16, 1939 in Evanston, Illinois and was-preceded in death by his brother, James Metzger, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marjorie Wright Metzger; his son, Eric Wright Metzger; his daughter, Tracey Metzger Gibson and her husband Robert; his grandchildren, Jared Metzger (wife Lheanne), Maria Suzanne Metzger, Zachary Gibson (wife Jenn), and Nicholas Gibson; his great-grandchildren, Jia Metzger, Hank Allen Terwelp, Anna Gibson, and Layne Gibson; his sister, Bernice Metzger Moroz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter dedicated 33 years of his career to Walmart, where he played a key role in establishing the company's operations in the Far East and Latin America. He and his wife lived in Hong Kong for five years during this time, embracing the adventure and building lasting memories through their international experiences.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Peter served proudly as part of the Strategic Air Command (SAC). His competitive spirit shone through in his lifelong love of sports. Growing up in Minnesota, Peter played hockey in his early years and went on to play in leagues in the United States and Canada, as well as, on an Air Force hockey team. He was an accomplished golfer and remained a devoted Arkansas Razorbacks fan throughout his life.

Peter found great joy in simple pleasures, especially traveling the world, playing cribbage with his son and daughter, and spending time with family.

Deeply committed to his faith and community, Peter was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers, where he served on the Parish Board and participated in various ministries. He also directed the church's food pantry, approaching this work with profound compassion. "His mission was to bring not just food, but dignity, care, and love to those in need."

Peter generously gave of his time and leadership beyond the church, serving as President of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Arkansas and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Arkansas ALS Association.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers, on Thursday, February 5 at noon, with visitation with the family from 11:00 to 12:00. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial donations to the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of NWA (spsfnwa.org), the Arkansas ALS Association (als.org/arkansas), or your local food pantry, in honor of Peter's lifelong dedication to helping others.

Peter will be remembered as a devoted family man, a faithful servant, and a generous soul whose kindness and quiet strength touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed.
