Mary Shrader Obituary

Published by Adams Funeral Chapel - Charleston on Mar. 8, 2012.
CHARLESTON - Mary Kathryn Shrader, age 86 of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Douglas Rehabilitation and Care Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday (March 10) from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Funeral Chapel with Pastor Matt McGregor and Pastor Kenny Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Enon Cemetery, rural Ashmore, Illinois. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to the Children's Miracle Network. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Kathryn was born on May 25, 1925 in Charleston and was the daughter of the late Roy T. and Gertrude Ruth (Robison) Lanman. She married Clarence E. Shrader on January 30, 1949 in Charleston and they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband Clarence, she is survived by her daughters, Zella Lee Shrader and her loving partner Dale Jenkins, Sr. of Charleston and Carol Ann Roberts and husband Art of Diona, Illinois; six grandchildren, Steve Campbell and wife Mindy of Findlay, Illinois, Dan Campbell and wife Leslie of Arthur, Illinois, Kevin Ferguson of Diona, Bob Ferguson of Chile, Larry Roberts of Charleston and David Roberts and wife Becca of Taylorville, Illinois; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Townley and husband Ben of Mattoon and Kay Cuppy of Arcola, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Fran Lanman of Mattoon; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Ken Lanman. Kat, as she was affectionately known to many, was a woman of faith who loved the Lord. She was a member of the Church in the Barn in Charleston. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed tending to her flower gardens as well as her vegetable gardens, was a skilled seamstress and her artistic abilities were evident through her sketches. Kat was a homemaker who deeply loved her home and her family. Her devotion to them was apparent - as a devoted wife to Clarence who often helped him with the farming chores, as a proud and devoted grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and as a loving mother to Zella and Carol and who was truly their best friend. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. Kat's memorial website is available at www.adamsfuneralchapel.com where condolences may be sent to the family by clicking on obituaries.

Zella and Carol, Sorry to hear about your mother passing away. I'm sure she is resting at the Lord's feet tonight.

Clarence, sorry to hear about your wife. I can't imagine how that is. I remember when you all lived up the road from us. We will keep all of you in our prayers.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.

Zella, I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. She was such a wonderful person and neighbor to me when Jim and I lived in the trailer park on Adams. I will miss her and always remember her and Clarence with fond memories.
