Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Shultz, age 102, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. She was born to the late Lee Tartell and Josephine (Monell) Tartell. She was married to James C. Shultz, Jr. who preceded her in death along with their son, James Shultz. Liz was the oldest of eight children who have all preceded her in death. Her brother Louis (Helen) Tartell, sister Elda (Stanley) Sharpe, brothers Eugene and Philip Tartell, sister Christina Arnett, sister Lorraine (Walt) Meredith, and brother David (Delores) Tartell. Also preceding her was nephews Ronnie Griffin and Craig Sharpe, and niece Lisa Arnett.

Liz is survived by her sons Gregory (Margie) Shultz and son Gary Shultz. Her granddaughters Lindsi Shultz, Laci Shultz, and Heather Shultz. Great grandchildren Bryan Gainer and Kyli Gainer. Great-Great grandson Braxton Lockhart. Sister-in-law, Helena Tartell. She also has many loving nieces and nephews.

Liz and Jim started their lives together in 1948 in Monongah, West Virginia but eventually moved to Dayton, Ohio. Liz loved the flower business and eventually had her own shop called the Yellowbird. Even though she always wanted to be a nurse, she devoted her life to caring for her family and friends.

Liz was the beloved matriarch of our family-a loving, caring, and nurturing woman whose devotion to the Catholic Church was matched only by the strength of her faith in our Lord. She loved her children, grandchildren, family, and friends unconditionally, offering each of us a sense of comfort, guidance, and unwavering support. She had a truly beautiful soul, radiating kindness and grace in all that she did.

She inspired many simply by the way she lived, instilling in our family the values that continue to shape us today. To us, she was not only a blessing, but a saint-an example of faith, compassion, and unconditional love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She will forever remain in our hearts, forever and ever.

A visitation will be held on Monday December 8, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio. A Mass of Christian burial will take place the following day at 11:00 am at St. Helen's Parish, 605 Granville Place, Dayton, OH 45431.

Memorial contributions may be made in Liz's name to St. Helen's Parish in her honor.
