Mary Margaret "Peggie" Simon, age 75, of Champaign, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease.
Peggie was born on May 31, 1950, to William and Virginia Skelton. She grew up in Champaign, where her father owned and operated Skelton's Pharmacy. Through the popularity of the soda fountain and the town's gratitude for convenient access to medication, the Skelton family became well known throughout the community, with their stories often appearing in the local newspaper.
Peggie was abundantly blessed to marry the love of her life, William Simon, Jr., with whom she shared 52 years of laughter, loyalty, and partnership rooted deeply in their Catholic faith. Bill gifted Peggie with a lifetime of love, her dream of living near water, and countless adventures at home and traveling. In her later years, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to her care-patiently answering her repeated questions and good-naturedly accepting blame for "taking her phone."
Following in her father's footsteps, Peggie proudly graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1975. She lived her life with passion, devotion, and tireless dedication to her family. Peggie was a room parent, Girl Scout troop leader, soccer trip coordinator, and the creative force behind countless Halloween outfits and matching ensembles. She loved hosting pool parties and game nights, co-captained the family ski boat Family Tides, and instilled in her children a lifelong love of the water.
As her children grew into their teenage years, Peggie founded Simon Stitches, an embroidery business, and later became a Mary Kay seller, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and infectious enthusiasm.
Her Catholic faith was the unwavering foundation of her life. Peggie was a member of the Legion of Mary, co-led Retrouvaille retreats with her husband through the Archdiocese of St. Louis, facilitated Bible studies at St. Cletus, and was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's in Cottleville.
Peggie is survived by her loving children: Marissa (Adam) Schaeuble, Kara (Sonny) Zwierkowski, Kristin (Brad) Piercy, and Jonathan (Sarah) Simon; and her cherished grandchildren: Jordyn, Dylan, Gavin, Ethan, Ryan, Henry, Walker, and Hannah. She is also survived by her siblings, Bill (Anne) Skelton of New Zealand and Jim (Kay) Skelton of Schererville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Skelton, Sr. and Virginia Skelton, and her siblings Paul (Faith) Skelton of Carefree, Arizona and Anne (Wayne) Weber of
Champaign, IL. Peggie leaves behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and unconditional love-one that will continue to shape her family and all who were blessed to know her.
