Mary Frances Smith passed peacefully on February 12, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Melvin Thomas Smith; devoted mother of Matthew Thomas Smith and his wife, Jennifer Smith; and cherished grandmother of Sawyer Smith, Tucker Smith, and Piper Smith. She was the loving daughter of the late Pearl J. Clark and dear sister of Lester, Sue, Elizabeth, and Mildred.
Mary and her husband, Melvin, shared 64 wonderful years of marriage together, building a life rooted in love, faith, and family. She was a true fighter, courageously surviving leukemia with a strength that inspired all who knew her. Mary was a remarkable cook and found joy in feeding those she loved. She was especially known for her delicious fried chicken and homemade biscuits.
A visitation will be held at Lassahn Funeral Home, Overlea, located at 7401 Belair Road, Nottingham, Maryland 21236, on Wednesday February 18th from 2-5pm. A funeral service will be held at Lassahn Funeral Home, Overlea on Thursday February 19th at 12:30pm . Interment will follow at Parkwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in honor of Mary Frances Smith to Blood Cancer United (bloodcancerunited.org) and National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org).
