Mary Smith Obituary
Mary Jo was a woman of deep commitment to her community and country. Her service and contributions were recognized with the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina's highest honors. She was especially devoted to supporting veterans, dedicating much of her time and energy to ensuring their needs were met with dignity and care.
Her selflessness extended far beyond her public service. Mary Jo was a nurturing presence in the lives of those around her. To her grandsons Justin and Joshua, she was more than a grandmother-she was a second mother who offered unwavering love and guidance throughout their lives.
She found joy in life's simple pleasure, including feeding squirrels-a small act that reflected her gentle spirit and appreciation for nature.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughters Debra Deal and Gloria Miller; her son-in-law Isaac Miller; and her beloved grandsons Justin and Joshua. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Smith and her sister, Ruth Ann McCoy.
Her legacy of kindness and service will live on through those who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort to all whose lives she touched.
