MARY (nee Bajo) SONYE, 99, of Fair Lawn died Saturday at Allendale Senior Living in Allendale, NJ.

Born in Passaic, NJ, Mrs. Sonye resided in Fair Lawn for 68 years. She was an accounting associate with Farmland Dairies, formerly of Wallington. She loved sewing, cooking and baking, especially her apricot squares, palacsintas, chicken paprikas and other Hungarian delicacies.

Mrs. Sonye was a member of the former Hungarian Reformed Church of Passaic where she served as an elder and participated in the Calvin Adult Fellowship, Food festivals and Tricky Trays. As vice president of the Friday Social Club of Fair Lawn, she also served as the activity director. Mary also participated in the Senior Bowling League at Lakeview Lanes in Clifton.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Sonye, Sr., her parents, John and Meri (nee Vasa) Bajo; her two brothers, John and Ernest and her two sisters, Gisella Gazdayka and Irene Carofine.

Survivors include her two children, Joe Sonye, Jr. and his wife, Michele of Fair Lawn and Sandy Thiebe and her husband, Edward of Plant City, FL; her six grandchildren, Jessica, Leslie, Katrin, Gillian, Edward, Josh and her eleven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 515 Lexington Avenue, Clifton followed by a 12:30 pm funeral service. Interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
