Albany-Sister M. Rose of the Sacred Heart Spencer passed away peacefully at Teresian House on March 30, 2025. Marie Frances Spencer was born in Utica, NY on November 11, 1928. She was the oldest of 6 siblings: Thomas, Charles, Eugene, Doris and June all of whom predeceased her. Sister is survived by her nieces: Rosie Were, Catherine Purnell and June Hjeltness all of Tacoma, Washington. She is also survived by her dear friends the Duprey family of Loudonville, N.Y. and her Religious community who will greatly miss her.
Sister Rose entered the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged & Infirm on September 7, 1944, professed her First Vows on March 19, 1946 and Final Vows on December 8, 1950. She had various assignments within the Congregation including at Mater Christi Seminary in Albany, NY but served over 40 years at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Utica before being assigned to Teresian House in 2014. Sister Rose will be remembered for her kindness, gentleness and generosity as well as her love of animals of all varieties. People and dogs were drawn to her. She was also known for making pillows which she sold or gave away.
