Mary A. Stevens

1935 - 2026

Mary A Stevens, 90, Seymour, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour.

She was born June 24, 1935, in Seymour to the late Herbert and Jessie Mae (Hall) Manuel. On Dec. 6, 1953, she married Elvin Stevens at First Baptist Church in Seymour.

Mary was a long-time member of First Baptist Church. She and her husband were owners of The Garage, Inc. for 30 years. She was also a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority and the Red Hat Society. Mary enjoyed working with plants, listening to music, and spending time with her family. Her home was never without the cheerful presence of animals, each one treasured and loved. Mary especially enjoyed fish aquariums and watching the birds at the feeder. Both were a source of quiet contemplation and joy.

She is survived by daughters, Pamela Gumbel, Barbara "Elise" (Joseph) Rebber, and Alison (Rick) Cockerham; a son, Curtis (Leslie) Stevens; nine grandchildren, Nick (Rachel) Gumbel, Katie (Marcus) Nakamura, Megan (Derek) Davis, Joel (Amy) Rebber, Clayton (Mandy) Rebber, Justin (Heather) Clark, Ryan (Korie) Clark, Blaine (Heather) Stevens, and Dalton (Denise) Stevens; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Bernard Gumbel and infant brother, John Manuel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, 316 N. Chestnut St, Seymour, with Rev. Larry Tingle officiating. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
