Mary Magdalene Gregory Stockton, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 20, 2023, at RidgeCrest Retirement Community in Mount Airy. Mrs. Stockton was born Aug. 6, 1934, in Surry County, to the late James Elmer and Mary Ann Atkins Gregory. Magdalene was a loving wife, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her five nieces and their spouses, Cheryl Norman and husband Doug, Lynn Gregory, Sarah Linz and husband Walter, Elizabeth Standaser and husband Greg, Karen McCray and husband John; three nephews and their spouses, Greg Smith and wife Sherry, Rex Gregory, Jr. and Stephanie, Jimmy Gregory and Shelia, along with several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stockton was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Link Stockton, Jr.; two sisters, Maurine Gregory Smith, Colleen Gregory Barham; and three brothers, Rex Gregory, Sr., Cicero Gregory and an infant brother, Herbert Thurmond Gregory. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29, at Skyline Memory Gardens at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating. Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 272 Oak Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030, or to RidgeCrest Retirement Community, 1000 RidgeCrest Lane, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
