Mary Elizabeth Strom, age 77 of Amery, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

She was born on October 28, 1947 in St. Paul, MN to Wilfred and Elizabeth (Leach) Abbott. Mary grew up on the west side of St. Paul where she attended and graduated from St. Agnes High School. After high school, Mary worked at Peter's Meats where she met Glen Strom, and they were married on May 16, 1970. Mary attended school through Northwest Airlines where she received her certification to work as a record keeper for the airline. Through her career, Mary was able to travel to many different places including China, Sweden, Finland and Russia. In 1972, Glen and Mary moved to Amery, WI. After discovering Amery did not yet have a hockey program, Mary and Glen formed the Amery Youth Hockey program within a year. Glen coached and Mary assistant coached in Amery for 26 years.

Mary was able to share her faith and love of Christ through coaching and counseling the youth, and she impacted not only the kids she coached but many families and other individuals as well. No matter where she was in life, Mary was very active in her faith whether it was bible study while working at the airlines, to her many travels, or interacting with others in the local community. She was the worship and youth group leader at New Life Community Church, putting her musical theater club talents to use with singing and playing piano and guitar. Her talents were far and wide as she even showed Morgan horses in competition for a while. Mary loved to be outside, and she was not only strong-willed but physically strong as well and loved log splitting and cutting wood with the chainsaw. She also enjoyed gardening and caring for her flower beds.

Most of all, Mary will be remembered for the love of the Lord that she shared and showed others and the many lives she touched as a result.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph Abbott. She is survived by her husband, Glen "Coach"; children, Glenda (Gary) Helgeson, Ginger (Dan) Brockman, Geof (Rita) Strom, and Gay Hennessey; brothers, James (Nicola) Abbott, Anthony (Jeanne) Abbott and Willie (Karla) Abbott; and sisters, Joanne (Dave) McLaughlin, Judy (Ron) George, Teresa (Gabriel) Romo, and Elizabeth (Mark) VanGuilder; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many other loving friends and family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, WI. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the Alliance Church of the Valley in St. Croix Falls, WI with a visitation beginning one hour prior at 10:00am. Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
