Mary L. Thomas, 75, of Houston, MN passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, MN.
Mary Louise Schultz, daughter of Glenn and Agnes (Sather) Schultz was born on February 8, 1947, in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised on the family farm in Looney Valley (rural Houston), MN. Mary was a 1965 graduate of Houston High School and attended Winona State University. On June 29, 1968. Mary was united in marriage to Loren Thomas at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church.
Mary’s passion was dairy farming, which she continued with Loren as the fourth generation on the family farm. She also worked as a vet tech during the busy seasons for Houston and Lewiston Veterinary Clinics. She enjoyed showing cattle at area fairs and helping others from the area pick their animals and get ready for the ring.
She was a very selfless person who would drop everything to help someone in need at a moment’s notice. She was a member of Cedar Valley Lutheran Church, Houston County 4-H member and club leader, Circle A Saddle Club, and the Houston County Holstein Club.
Mary is survived by three children: Laura (Chris) Seljan of Kasson, MN, Mike (Kelly) Thomas of Houston, MN, and Kristine (Scott) Maynard of Winona, MN; seven grandchildren: Zachary (Julia), Bryce (Rylee Choate), Melissa, Devin (Olivia Christianson), Benjamin, Julia, and Matthew; sister, Jenelle Lemke (Jon Owens) of Houston, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lorraine Klomps of Chatfield, MN, Dale (Shirley) Thomas of Plainview, MN, Glen (Kitti Potratz) Thomas of Fountain, MN; and Bonnie Thomas of Greanleafton, MN; and by a close family friend, Dean Hamlin of Jesup, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Gundersen Tweeten Care Center for all the wonderful care provided to Mary.
There will be a funeral service for Mary at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Cedar Valley Lutheran Church in rural Winona, MN. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, at Hoff Funeral Home in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
