In the quiet light of December 22, 2025, the world lost a vibrant soul, Mary Helen Thompson, whose spirited essence forever brightened the lives she touched. Born on February 28, 1941, in the charming town of Tyler, Texas, Mary danced her way through life, filling every room with laughter and warmth. She was a true testament to the rich tapestry of human experience, beloved for her unabashed authenticity and a heart that was as generous as it was bold.
Mary’s personality was a radiant blend of fun and independence, qualities that persisted even as her health began to wane. She reveled in the joy of living, with birthdays celebrated not merely as events, but as vibrant festivals steeped in love. If she liked you, you knew it, and likewise, if she didn’t, you would feel that too. There was no ambiguity in her affections—only a clear and refreshing honesty that endeared her to all fortunate enough to cross her path.
A culinary enthusiast, Mary had a particular fondness for fish and peanuts, her tastes as eclectic as her interests, which included exciting escapades at casinos and moments spent dancing to the rhythm of her favorite music. Her laughter echoed in every gathering, a soundtrack to the joyful memories forged with family and friends.
Mary’s strength came not only from her loving spirit but also from her enduring role within her family. She was a proud matriarch who cherished being part of five generations. Her legacy is carried forward by her devoted daughters, Paige Russell and Mary Gladys Jackson, along with her son Maurice Jackson, who will carry the torch of her vibrant spirit. The love she nurtured also flourishes through her seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to the deep roots she planted.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents, Cleveland and Irene Thompson, her son Calvin Thompson, and twelve siblings, who are surely welcoming her with open arms in the embrace of eternity.
As we gather to honor her memory, a viewing will be held on December 30, 2025, at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, where friends can share in their memories of a remarkable woman from noon until 7 PM. A funeral service will follow the next day, December 31, at 3 PM, in the same embrace of friendship and remembrance.
Mary Helen Thompson lived a life ripe with love, laughter, and indomitable spirit, a life well-lived and celebrated, destined to inspire stories for generations to come. She may have departed from this earth, but the vivid colors of her personality and the echoes of her laughter will linger on, a cherished melody in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
