Mary "Missy" Magdalena Tompkins-a devoted wife, mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, auntie, niece and friend to so many-passed away suddenly on September 15, 2025, at the age of 54.
Born on March 19, 1971, in Salinas to Crispin and Ninfa Santa Ana, Missy spent her career in the legal profession, but her greatest role was the one she loved most: being a mom. Her family was the center of her world. She shared 14 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Ryan Tompkins, and poured her heart into raising her children: Adam Santa Ana and Tori Ramos. She was also a proud stepmom to Taylor, Nathan, Nolan, and Nixon Tompkins, and a doting grandmother to Ava, Jeremiah, and Jordynn. To Missy, every child deserved to feel loved and valued-something she gave freely not only to her family, but to nieces, nephews, teammates' kids, and any child lucky enough to cross her path.
Missy had a gift for making people feel cared for. Whether it was cheering at her kids' and grandkids' games, teaching a younger cousin how to drive, pulling a niece's loose tooth, or organizing a family gathering, she had a way of showing up for others in everyday, meaningful ways. She loved her 49ers, country concerts, and above all, time spent surrounded by family and friends.
In honoring the memory of her late brother, Ralph Santa Ana, Missy co-founded the Ralph Santa Ana Foundation, which created opportunities for local youth to continue playing the sports they love. Through the foundation and her leadership with the Salinas Valley Spartans semi-pro football team, she touched countless lives and helped bring home a Pacific Coast Football League Tier 2 Championship in 2018. Her impact on the community was as big as her heart.
Missy is survived by her husband Ryan, her six children, three grandchildren, and her parents, Crispin Jr. and Ninfa Santa Ana. She also leaves behind her siblings Cris (Alison) Santa Ana III, Ray (Jamie) Anthony Santa Ana, Christina (Rob) Silva, and brothers-in-law Rob (Jill) and Randy Tompkins, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews Ashley (Ross) Driscoll, Stephanie (Curt) Ceralde, Taylor Santa Ana, Reagan Santa Ana, Samantha Santa Ana, Royce Santa Ana, and Arielle Santa Ana, her Aunties Emma Rodriguez and Rosie Uribe, plus many cousins and extended family. She now reunites with her brother Ralph and other loved ones who passed before her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Missy's life at her viewing on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Madonna Del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Drive, Salinas, with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas.
Though her passing leaves a hole in our hearts, her spirit continues to live in the love she gave so freely. We'll carry her warmth, kindness, and joy forward-just as she would want.
